ABOUT THE LEARNING COMMONS
Located inside Ivy Tech Community College’s Muncie Campus – John and Janice Fisher Building, this collaborative learning environment provides FREE tutoring, academic coaching, remedial course assistance, study skills and supplemental instruction, as well as math, science and spanish tutors and writing consultants. Get help during drop-in hours or online!
The Learning Commons, designed to be student-centered, is a learning space – an extension of the classroom – that encourages time spent on information technology , remote or online education, tutoring, collaboration, content creation , meetings, socialization, exploration and studying.

MATH AND SCIENCE TUTORING
Students enrolled in math, statistics, science, or any other courses involving mathematics are welcome to drop in for math tutoring whenever questions or difficulties arise. Math tutors are available to help students with a number of tasks, including preparing for exams and quizzes, overcoming homework-related difficulties, understanding particular problems or concepts, using math textbooks effectively, elaborating on proofs, clarifying class notes, and providing tips on how to study mathematics more effectively.
WRITING TUTORING
The purpose of the writing tutoring program is to help students develop a more comprehensive understanding of the conventions of college-level prose. To facilitate this, tutors discuss writing assignments, listen and respond to students’ drafts, introduce students to various writing strategies, and help students understand the reader/writer relationship.
TUTORING FOR SPECIFIC COURSES
Tutoring for specific courses offers students the opportunity to discuss concepts presented in lectures or reading materials, learn problem-solving and critical thinking strategies, improve study skills, and develop learning strategies.
